In Kinshasa, at l’Échangeur de Limete, one of the most recognizable landmarks of the city, ISOLELE has its home. It is where the ISOLELE Universe meets the public: a cultural center for African comic books, art, games and the stories of the Congo. If you searched for a cultural center in Kinshasa, here is what ISOLELE is building, and how you can be part of it.
A landmark of Kinshasa
L’Échangeur de Limete is a place every Kinois knows. Its tall tower rises over one of the busiest crossroads of the capital, and nearby stands a monument to Patrice Lumumba, the first Prime Minister of independent Congo. It is a place of memory in the heart of the city, and that is exactly why ISOLELE chose it.
ISOLELE holds a long-term agreement with the Ministry of Culture of the Democratic Republic of Congo for the site. The goal is simple: turn a landmark into a living home for Congolese creativity.
What happens at the ISOLELE cultural center

The center is the Kinshasa home of the ISOLELE Universe, the Congolese comic book universe of more than 300 Black African superheroes, from Zaiire, the Prince of Kongo, to Kimoya Kandake and Mwindo Lumumba, the African Panther. Here the universe leaves the page: the books, the characters, the costumes and the games come to meet the people of Kinshasa.
It is also a meeting point for the artists behind the books. ISOLELE works with 49 Congolese illustrators between Kinshasa and Bukavu, and every page of its comics is drawn by hand, without AI. And it is where ISOLELE’s games come to life: the Kufu card game, the Kuludo board game and the Kongo Royal Heritage Chess, a 10 by 10 chess game with African pieces.
Bana ya ISOLELE: reading and creating
ISOLELE runs Bana ya ISOLELE, which means Children of ISOLELE in Lingala: a children’s literacy and arts program in the Congo, with sessions in Kinshasa and Goma. Children receive books, discover heroes who look like them and learn to tell their own stories. A child who sees an African prince on the cover of a book starts to imagine one in the mirror.
ISOLELE UMOJA, the festival

On July 3 and 4, 2027, ISOLELE will hold ISOLELE UMOJA in Kinshasa: two days dedicated to African superheroes, the first festival of the ISOLELE Universe. Umoja means unity in Swahili. The festival will be held outdoors, near l’Échangeur, and ISOLELE has invited guests from every continent to discover the comics, the characters and the culture of the Congo.
Why a cultural center matters
Kinshasa is one of the great creative capitals of Africa, the city of rumba, of painters and of the Congolese comic book tradition of Mongo Sisé and Barly Baruti. Yet young artists often have nowhere to show their work and children rarely see their own heroes in print. ISOLELE wants l’Échangeur to be the place where that changes: where Congolese stories are made, shown and celebrated at home before they travel the world.
Visit, partner, take part
Artists, schools, cultural institutions, sponsors and journalists who want to visit the center, organize an activity, join the festival or work with ISOLELE can write to empire@isoleleuniverse.com. The center’s Google listing, ISOLELE UNIVERSE, also shows its location and reviews.
