ISOLELE, the first Black African superhero universe rooted in Kongo history, is anchored by three characters at the center of its saga: Zaiire, Kimoya Kandake and Mwindo Lumumba. Together they carry the Congolese comics genre Katiomics into the story of African royalty, African mythology and African independence.
Zaiire, the Congolese Prince of Kongo
Zaiire is the Crown Prince of Kongo, a demi-god born to Shango, the lord of thunder, and to Kimoya, a warrior queen of the Kongo royal bloodline. Chosen by the Necklace of Destiny, he is the Black African superhero the ISOLELE Universe is named for, and the hero of the Congolese comic book Zaiire: The Prince of Kongo and the Necklace of Destiny.
Kimoya Kandake, the warrior queen of the Makanda

Kimoya is Zaiire’s mother and the Rising Kandake of the Makanda dynasty, the hidden African civilization protected by the Sacred Flame. Inspired by the real Kandakes, the warrior queens of ancient Kush, she is one of the African superhero queens at the heart of ISOLELE.
Mwindo Lumumba, the African Panther

Mwindo Lumumba is the ancestral spirit of Patrice Lumumba, the first Prime Minister of independent Congo, made manifest as the first African Panther. Rooted in the real date of June 30, 1960, and in the Mwindo epic of the Nyanga people, he stands beside Zaiire as one of the Black African superheroes carrying Congolese history into the ISOLELE Universe.
Three heroes, one Kongo bloodline, one universe: African kings, queens and warriors built from real Congolese and African history, not borrowed from anyone else’s. ISOLELE is already home to more than 300 characters across the Katiomics universe, and everything begins with these three. This is Katiomics, the African comic book genre ISOLELE created for the world.
